Looking back on 2023...

Wait, what?  Where did the year go???

It is hard to believe we have had a full year in operation.  There are still so many projects that we are working on, and things we want to add, but it is important to take a step back and realize just how far we have come…

Clear glass greenhouse with black metal framing shown at an angle. One raised garden bed is visible in front of the greenhouse.

In March, we cleared a space behind the garage, laid down a gravel base, and built a greenhouse from a kit we purchased in Sequim.  Our goal was (and continues to be!) to grow as much food as possible for our guests.  That same month, we had a whole-house generator installed – power here on the Olympic Peninsula can be a little bit unreliable with our mix of rain, wind, and trees, but now we (and our guests!) have nothing to worry about!  Of course, since we have had the generator installed, we have lost power exactly one time for about an hour… but it is great insurance to have!

Lots of pea gravel, mica-tumbled flagstones for stepping stones, and beautiful weather all combine to highlight this section of the bluff.

This is the same section of the bluff during one of our foggy days, but with a better view of our new table area and hammock.

We have also been putting some time into landscaping the area between the B&B and the bluff overlooking the Hood Canal.  Our vision is inspired by our time spent in Japan, so our hope is that our guests will slowly see our version of a Japanese garden come to life.  We have also added another seating area, complete with additional lighting and a hammock, for our guests to use and to enjoy the view.

Adrian continues to expand his culinary offerings, especially those in response to the dietary needs of our guests.  Favorites this year included pumpkin cream cheese French toast, lemon poppyseed scones, and his ever-popular vanilla yogurt with in-season fruit, local honey, and our own mint.  We added a s’mores package that has become a hit, especially with our getaway couples, and our ghost tour with our very own Cap’n Mike continues its popularity.

But enough about 2023…

We have great plans in the works for 2024!

  • Partnering with local artisans for authentic experience weekends
  • Hosting themed getaway weekends
  • Expanding our available add-on packages
  • Completing our outdoor wood-fired pizza oven and smokehouse
  • Using this blog more (yes!) to promote local events with plenty of lead time to make reservations

We also want to make sure that those guests and followers that have been with us for a while are the first to hear about special events.  We will post our news and events to our mailing list first before announcing our blog posts on our FaceBook and Instagram accounts, so if you are interested in that extra “heads up” time, please make sure you are subscribed by giving us your email address here (no spam, we promise!).

And as we close this just in time to publish as the fireworks are starting outside, we want to wish everyone a very happy New Year!
